The alarm sirens wailed at ibis Dresden Zentrum
. Heavy smoke emissions on the 1st floor had set the alarm off. Immediately all employees from the Reservation, Sales and Management Departments congregated on the ground floor of the 11 storey hotel. The goal: The fountain on Prager Straße – the central meeting point of the fire drill plan of the three hotel buildings in Dresden’s biggest shopping area.
All employees from the first floor met the employees from the kitchen, restaurant and bar in the lobby, who had already gathered there. Only five minutes later the Fire Service “Feuerwache Dresden Mitte”, Europe’s longest standing Fire Service, arrived at the reception. After a quick look at the display of the fire alarm control center at reception, the Dresden’s firemen entered the danger zone, just one floor above, equipped with their respiratory equipment, fire-axes and fire-hoses.
Practice for a real emergency
The guests in the Lobby, who because of the fire alarm, were restricted from using the lifts, observed the operation in awe. Worried questions: “Is everything ok?”…… Yes, it was only a fire drill! In accordance with the annual voluntary self monitoring programme
the company technician of the ibis Dresden Zentrum set off the fire alarm. So that the drill would be as realistic as possible, only the “Feuerwache Dresden Mitte” Fire Service was informed of the drill in advance.
POSITIVE RESULTS FROM THE FIRE SERVICE
Overall, the results of this drill were positive: The officer-in-charge commended the hotel for its “exemplary” handling of the situation.
The ibis Dresden Zentrum hopes that this fire emergency plan will never have to be implemented. But in a real emergency, we are confident that we are very well prepared. Because our guests should not only feel comfortable, but also safe and secure!
